Ellitorial: The Legend Of Cody Maverick Part 2

Last Thursday I started the tale of a dude who is soon to become the next great American Folk tale. Cody Maverick is a bro unlike any other, some say with a Divine aura surrounding him. With all that said we still know very little about the Protector of the Pitted. We know of his origin, but what was he like as a keiki? The story continues now…

At an early age, young Cody knew he was different from the other kids. Things just came naturally to the boy. Whether it be skating, surfing, swimming, volleyball, spike ball, hackie sack, foot bag (which is TOTALLY DIFFERENT), chilling in a hammock, constantly having wind hitting his hair, flipping his hair, or opening cans with his teeth, it was as if his life was in a constant state of chill. Never too early and never too late, time walked at his pace and his pace was lax af bruh. With that said, young Cody still felt like there was something calling to him.

The years continued and now 16-year-old Cody realized that he was gifted in the ancient Hawaiian art of Gnar. Much like his Pops, he was always finding himself cruising through barrels. It was effortless for him and he needed more. He needed something that could push him past his current level of broness. After days of searching the island’s forest, mountains, and towns. As the wind began to blow he followed the wind to the coasts, it was only then that he saw them. Mavericks, unlike any waves he had seen before. For those of you not in the know, a “maverick” is a mondo-sized wave. Though normally found off the coast of Cali, these puppers can get up to about 60ft in height. The gnar levels are through the roof and only the most seasoned of homeslices even attempt to ride these beasts.

Enter Cody Lolo.

With the sea calling him, the young buck rushed home to grab his board to wrangle up these mavericks. Upon his return, however, he saw that his Pops was putting his board away. Pops warned Cody that chasing mavericks was kapu as he was too young to ride these rippers. Unfazed and now more determined than ever, he swooped his board and rushed out to the shore. After hauling ass the Codester was starting to wonder if he had the strength to even get out to the meaty waves. As his negative thoughts began to harsh his vibes he heard the sound of that old Land Cruiser pull up beside him.

“If you’re truly gonna be a Lolo, then I might as well be a Lolo with you.” His Pops said with a jetski hitched to the back.

Cody now with newfound confidence smiled and laughed.

“Mahalo bro.”

They pushed the jetski out to the ocean and tied Cody’s board to the back. They looked out at the waves and smiled. The levels of pittedness these two were about to receive were about to be unlike anything the island had ever seen.

The legend of Cody vs The Maverick is to be finished next week.
