Rage Against the Machine bassist Tim Commerford revealed in a new interview that he’s been living with prostate cancer. The 54-year-old said that he’s doing well after receiving treatment earlier this year.

Commerford told Spin that he had his prostate removed two months before Rage Against the Machine started their reunion tour in July, and only his band mates and a small circle of confidants were made aware of his diagnosis. In October, Rage Against the Machine canceled their 2023 North American Tour after bandleader Zack de la Rocha severely tore his Achilles tendon at the second show of the tour.  Said Commerford said he is opening up about his diagnosis to help others: “I hope there’s one person who reads this and is like, ‘F**k, I need to get checked out’ when they find out about it.”

Outside of Rage Against the Machine, Commerford has been recording with his band 7D7D, who recently released their debut single, “Capitalism.”
