Green Day and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

green20day20hof20thanks
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced their 2015 inductee class and this year’s honorees are: Green Day, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Bill Withers, the Paul Butterfield Blues Band and the late Lou Reed. These nominees are all worthy this year, which has been untrue in years past. And I'm not here to debate on why _____________________________ didn't get in this year. There's many, many, MANY bands that should be in (Deep Purple being ignored is borderline criminal). But seeing Green Day get in is fun and exciting. Being a high schooler when 'Dookie' came out, its easy to look back on that album almost as like 'Nevermind' as it's been a part of my life since it came out, both in my personal life and obviously by being an alternative rock DJ. But let's not forget how Green Day was somewhat written off after awhile. Matter of fact, the response to an album called 'American Idiot' at the time was not with open arms…………..until you listened to it………..and listened to it again and if you were me, listened to it again to make what you were hearing was THAT damn good.

Like I said, the opinion of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by many is 'who cares' or 'it doesn't mean anything' and maybe that's true. But if Green Day getting in and someone seeing them get in gets turned on to some of the bands that inspired Green Day, then I'll take that at the end of the day as well. Look for the positives, take what we can from this popularity contest and make it work. Congrats to Green Day…………and Joan…………..and the AMAZING Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble. Plus Ringo gettting the solo love as well. And next year, let's get N.W.A. in next year
