The art of the cover song – MY favorite cover songs

Cover songs are good and bad, Good in the sense if a band can make it their own and bring something to it, or if they do it 'straight laced', at least the passion of being a fan of the band you are covering comes out. They can be bad if they just plain suck or if that's all your band is known for. So with all that, the below are some of my favorites, again, not the best of all time, just some of MY favorites for whatever reason and in no particular order as well.

The White Stripes – Jolene – haunting, sparse, amazing. And Jack kept the lyrics, didn't change them to reflect him being a dude. Awesome cover.

Anthrax – the Bends – Bush-Thrax covering something from my favorite Radiohead album. Perfection.

The Ataris – Boys of Summer – LOVE this band (and the rest of the album 'So Long Astoria' is awesome). May have been a downfall possibly, as it's a HUGE radio song and maybe the only song people know from this band

The Gaslight Anthem – State of Love and Trust – One of my favorite current bands covering one of my favorite songs from another favorite band of mine

Iron Maiden – I Got the Fire – 'Piece of Mind' era Maiden covering one of the better Montrose songs NOT on the debut album – LEGIT!!

Velvet Revolver – Surrender – Everything intially about Velvet Revolver was great, from the 1st album to this cover. After that…….um……..

The Sundays – Wild Horses – The Sundays……………..enough said, SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good.

Imagine Dragons – Tom Sawyer – I just like the fact that they're giving it a try, it's not great, it's not bad. It's just cool seeing them give it a go and goes back to what I said earlier, the passion of being a fan of RUSH is there

Yes, I left off Orgy 'Blue Monday' and most likely a bunch of others I've forgotten, haven't heard, or just didn't want to post videos of. But there you go, some favs of mine. The Art of the Cover song
